Video Reviews about the National Disability Card

"When you are struggling and people don’t know it, it’s not always an easy thing to do to ask for that help and explain why you need help. The card’s definitely been really beneficial for me, from everyday use in the supermarket to venues like the AO Arena in Manchester; there are times where I shut down and I’ve just had to show it at Tesco for people to understand and be a little bit more patient with me. It’s great for when you’re going through the airport, you don’t need to ask where things are, people will immediately spot it and show you where to go."

Reviews About Using Your Card While Travelling

“I took the National Disability Card abroad and very successfully managed to use it for free entry and no queuing to two major attractions, Herculaneum & Naples national museum. I have other access cards but believe because of its easily identifying design with a Union Jack & disability symbol it's easily and universally recognised. Thank you.”

“This is UNBELIEVABLE. Thank you thank you thank you! I was dreading this trip to Disneyland. However, my Crohns makes queuing without access to toilets in a hurry almost impossible. I didn't know about yourselves and this amazing card until someone on a Disneyland Facebook group tipped me off. I am so very, very grateful to you. Long may you continue your phenomenal work of making disabled peoples' lives that little bit easier.”

Reviews about avoiding
explaining your disability

"Before I had my card I found it quite stressful if I was suddenly to become unwell in a public environment because no one would believe me. I’ve had examples of people think I’m really drunk because I’ve fainted, or I’ve had examples of people shout at me to move faster. Whereas now there’s a lot more support, I wear it and people offer me a seat or give me some space or let me go to the front. It’s been life changing because you don’t have to explain it or ask people and have people getting cross at you for it."

Millie C, National Disability Card holder, April 2025

“Wearing the card makes people aware not all disabilities are visible and having just one person asking if I needed any help whilst I was wearing the card to me made the card well worth the money I paid for it.”

“The National Disability Card has been a lifeline for me. Having recently received a late autism diagnosis I have always struggled with loud, crowded and chaotic situations such as airports, which I have found extremely overwhelming. Wearing the Verified Hidden Disability lanyard allows staff to quickly and discreetly offer help and support without having to continually explain yourself which I also struggle with. It also sends a clear message that not all disabilities are visible and reduces the likelihood of being challenged when using or receiving certain facilities.”

“I think the card is absolutely fantastic and a life saver for my daughter! She has a rare and hidden disability and this card allows us to feel ‘seen’. As well as discounts for her swimming lessons, theatre tickets, local attractions around Cornwall etc it has also given her a disability pass at theme parks such as Disney and ZooMarine in Portugal.”

Reviews About Venues and Days Out

“We have been out to the Tower Bridge experience and skipped the queue, we have been to Tower of London and they gave my daughter a wristband so we could skip the queue. We also used it at the London Transport Museum so I got in free, and at Pleasure Island Southend I got my tickets half price. Think we have used it a few more times, which has benefited my daughter so much as we can afford to do more and she doesn’t have to wait in lines which she can’t do due to her cerebral palsy."

”We used the card to get a free carer ticket on the Uber Thames river boat, free carer and disabled discount into the Tower of London and free carer for entry to Battersea Power Station Tower Experience.  We had a great time seeing lots of sights and the card was accepted everywhere we went.  Paid for itself in one weekend.  Makes a difference being able to access some previously inaccessible venues.”

Reviews About Card Holder Discounts

“I have used the gift cards to get discounts on my weekly shopping - I have already saved over £150 just on that. This card has helped me loads especially as I have a hidden disability and getting the help that is needed if I need it. This is one of the best decisions I have made and I can't thank the National Disability & Carers Card Scheme enough.”

“I think the National Disability Card is phenomenal value for money and in the two weeks I’ve had it, it’s more than paid for itself. I purchased mine to get assistance when I’m travelling so the discounts are an added bonus and I’m really pleased.”

“I’m enjoying using my National Disability Card. I use it regularly for Costa, Boots, M&S, Morrisons and Tesco and recently went to the David Morris exhibition in London where my carer was given free entry and I was given a discounted ticket. I’ve certainly recovered the cost of the card and I’ve only had it since July. Really grateful.”

Using Your Card at Airports and Transport Hubs

“The National Disability Card has been immensely helpful for me, as I now don’t have to explain myself all the time. It has helped me to travel on trains and coaches, and the staff are so supportive and understanding and willing to help me out and make sure my journey is always going smoothly. It helps me to get through the crowds with quick access. This is the best decision I’ve ever made, purchasing my card. Thank you so much.”

“In several airports abroad I’ve either gone to the disabled/assistance sign and they’ve seen my card and let me straight through, whether that be a long line I can’t stand in or checking in. Also when going through passport control abroad, again with a huge queue, I simply walked down the side and held up my lanyard and was called straight to the desk. The explaining is already done for you!”

“Having an instantly recognisable card means it talks for me. I don’t have to tell everybody all of the time why I need the seat on a bus. To have a card that is linked to a community of real support makes me incredibly happy and seen.”
