From the Royal Mile to the shores of Loch Ness, your National Disability Card works for you all over Scotland. You can use it to explain your needs without saying a word wherever you are. It also gets you free carer tickets at some of Scotland's best-loved attractions - a list that's growing constantly - and savings on everyday shopping regardless of where you live. Here's where residents or visitors to Scotland can use their cards, and how.

‍

Use your card in Scotland to avoid explaining your disability

You can use your National Disability Card anywhere in Scotland where you'd rather not repeat yourself or explain your disability. That might be a ScotRail station or a bus to town, the security queue at Edinburgh or Glasgow airport, or a busy gig at the Hydro. It might be the supermarket checkout, a GP reception desk or a packed Fringe venue in August.

‍

Just show your card to communicate that you may need a bit of help, patience or understanding - no more oversharing symptoms or medical details with a stranger.

‍

Unlike many other cards and lanyards, the National Disability Card is designed to get its message across instantly. It carries the International Symbol of Access, which is prominent on the front of the card. That matters because the symbol is recognised all over the world. The person you show it to doesn't need to have heard of our scheme to know what you're trying to tell them. One look is enough, whether you're talking to a bus driver in Inverness, a steward at Murrayfield or a shop assistant in Dundee.

‍

It's ideal for those moments when speaking up feels hard, or when you're tired of explaining the same thing again and again. Here's what our card holder Peter W said about showing his card at a Glasgow theatre in June 2026:

“I have used the National Disability Card once to enter the Pavillion Theatre in Glasgow, the stewards saw the card and automatically just without any question made sure that I was seen to my seat and comfortable with it.” ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Carer tickets and venue concessions

Your card is accepted at some of Scotland's highest profile venues for carer tickets or concessions, including Palace of Holyroodhouse, Edinburgh Zoo, Highland Wildlife Park, Deep Sea World and the Loch Ness Centre. See the full list below or by clicking here.

‍

How to get your carer ticket or concession

  1. Find a venue in Scotland on our website.
  2. Click the venue of interest and log in with your unique card number (it starts with "UK-") to see exactly how to book tickets.
  3. Show your National Disability Card at the entrance. Make sure your card is in date as venues will not typically accept an expired card.

‍

💡 Many venues not on our list may also accept the card at their discretion, so it's worth checking with them before you go. We regularly update our list of partners in Scotland, so check our website for updates.
